About the Author
Otto Carius (1922-2015) was a tank commander who fought for the German Army during World War II. He received a Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves for bravery in combat.

He has recorded over 100 audiobooks, many in the historical romance and Highlander genres, as well as fantasy novels, thrillers, classics, and young adult titles.

I'm glad I bought this book

This book is a great story. A rare personal account of what it was like to be a tank commander and see a lot of action. In probably the most legendary tank there ever was, no less. This was an exceptional man, and this is an exceptional book.

of Otto Carius to his comrades in the 502 Heavy Tank Bat.The author is the top living[90 yrs old] tank ace in the world!
TheJ.J.F.version has been out of print for years.But you can get a Stackpole book ,for next to nothing. A good read.

It Works!

I have read and put into practice the advice offered in this book and I have already noticed a HUGE difference. I'm off all medication being on carvidiol for two years and larsortan for a year my BP without medication runs no in the low 130's over the low 70's or lower (average is 132/73 I was 150/80). I am sleeping better, dizziness all but gone and even walking and feeling great. Note: it took about 4 weeks of following Dr Derose's advice before noticing any changes. Before reading his book I had already started eating none meat items and cutting back on dairy and eggs. This does not happen overnight and is not a quick fix but a real achievable lifestyle that anyone who really wants to get off of the blood pressure meds and start living can do by using the advice offered in this book. It really is all just common sense. But if you still desire to hang on to your old destructive lifestyle habits that put you were you are today on multiple meds, feeling like shit looking even worse then this program will fail for you. The SOLUTIONS IN THIS BOOK DO WORK

I am always curious about one star reviews. Unfortunately for this book, the one star reviews were in relation to NOT getting the download. To me, this is sad because it is a reflection of the medium they tried to download to (maybe an issue with amazon) VS the actual content of the book.

With that being said, let me just say that I am a medical professional. I bought this book for a relative who had extremely high blood pressure. I did a lot of research before i decided on this particular book. (I also bought another book and a blood pressure machine for use at home.)

The truth is, buying this book or any book will not lower blood pressure. You have to read the book and apply the recommended solution.
I gave the book version to my relative and got the kindle version for me. Upon initial research I found it to be good information but I wanted to read more. In reading the book I found that it is VERY SOUND information. It is well written in a user-friendly manner---really, what most people need.

In checking in with my relative...it has been more than 30 days and his blood pressure is down to normal readings. This book does provide solutions, I will continue to recommend it to others.

Very cool and smart dissection of Tarantino's style and influence

I had a terrific time with this book. As someone who has watched all of Quentin Tarantino’s films – and had varying reactions to all of them – I found this book both educational and extremely enlightening. Given Tarantino’s undeniable impact upon the film culture of the early 90’s and his subsequent (some would say unshakeable) influence ever since, this book is proof – if any was needed – of just how deeply Mr. Tarantino’s cinematic DNA has been embedded in the popular moviegoing world.

The author, Christopher Kenworthy, has clearly done his homework. He not only understands the complex emotional effect that Tarantino’s films elicit – often, it’s a cocktail of giddy, amoral violence and deeply messed-up humor, all polished off with a self-conscious movie nerd’s sheen and surf rock or 70’s soul on the soundtrack – but just how those sensations manifest themselves through his cinema. Breaking down, moment-by-moment, shot-by-shot, some of the most memorable and gruesome scenes from “Reservoir Dogs” and “Django Unchained” should be required homework for anyone looking to study Q.T.

Kenworthy examines the building of tension that comes with some of Tarantino’s most shocking and violent scenes. Since Q.T. is one of the most recognizable writers of dialogue working in movies today, he is able to play the audience like a puppet, knowing exactly when the brutality should strike. Kenworthy understands this, and he’s able to do much the same to his reader through mastery of his craft and knowledge of his subject.

It’s also interesting to note the stylistic differences that permeate all of the director’s films: the camera movements and general style of something like “Jackie Brown” is markedly different then the more frenzied, overtly cinematic approach of the “Kill Bill” films or “Django Unchained”. Kenworthy drives these points home with tremendous insight and he makes us see the picture crystal clear. His economy as a writer turns out to be his biggest asset.

Overall, highly recommended. This book made me see Tarantino’s films in an entirely new light. One can only hope Kenworthy covers more directors with more great books like this one.

A Celebration of Tarantino's Craft

Author Christopher Kenworthy tells us that “Tarantino is famous for many reasons, but he is underrated as a technical filmmaker” within the introduction to this very important book about film directing. And this is true, so many of us admire Tarantino for his gritty, realistic stories that are often produced as homages to classic films within various genres, that we forget that he is also a nearly flawless film director. If you are at all interested in Tarantino as an artist, and most definitely as one of America’s finest film auteurs, then this book is for you. You don’t have to be a student director to enjoy this book, although many students who are studying directing can definitely learn a lot from this volume. This is a must-read for Tarantino fans and film students alike. You will assuredly know how Tarantino sets up his scenes and executes his vision by the end of this book. I’m not a film director but I do enjoy his movies and I am now going to enjoy his movies even more after reading this book.

About the Author
Nick Totton is a body psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor living and working in Calderdale, where he also grows vegetables. He has a grown-up daughter. He has published several other books including Body Psychotherapy: An Introduction, and Press When Illuminated: New and Selected Poems. He is editor of the journal Psychotherapy and Politics International (Wiley). Together with Em, he took the first steps towards initiating the Independent Practitioners Network.Em Edmondson is a body-orientated psychotherapist who has worked in private practise as a therapist since 1981. Past work has included co-facilitating trainings in Reichian growth work and Hakomi. Her current group work approach is Authentic Movement. She is the mother of 2 adults.

Fine book, but well worn.

Expect inconsistencies from the current and popular Disney Fairies series, as this is an old book. It's fun to see the characters in a different light. The book I ordered was supposed to be in "very good" condition. I attached photos for you all to see what it looks like. It is not suitable to give as a gift to somebody else.

Mayra Santos-Febres (Carolina, Puerto Rico, 1966) es escritora. Estudi� Literatura en la Universidad de Puerto Rico y ha sido invitada como profesora, escritora y editora residente por m�ltiples universidades prestigiosas de Estados Unidos, Latinoam�rica y Europa. Ha obtenido varios premios internacionales, entre los que destacan el Letras de Oro en 1994 y el Juan Rulfo en 1996, ambos en el g�nero de cuento. Muchas de sus obras han sido traducidas al franc�s, ingl�s, alem�n e italiano. Entre sus publicaciones en poes�a cabe mencionar Anam� y manigua (1991), El orden escapado (1991), Mal (h)ablar: Antolog�a de nueva literatura puertorrique�a (1997) y Tercer Mundo (1999). Una mujer �nica y al la vez conocida

Una vez tuve el privilegio escuchar una pl�tica de Mayra Santos Febres, que es una oradora muy vibrante y cuando escribes su narrativa brilla. Acabo de leer La amante de Gardel y me encanta. Micaela es un personaje tan complejo que encarna el conflicto que muchas mujeres sufren, lo de dejar todo hasta s� misma por el amor o seguir con la carrera o sea con la vida que no es complacer a un hombre. Estoy horrorizada que se acueste con �l sin protecci�n pero al mismo tiempo una parte de la mujer independiente que soy entiende eso, entregarse por completo a un hombre. Me fascina el detalle de que Micaela dice que leer el libro de plantas fue el comienzo del final porque con eso sabemos que aunque Gardel la rechaza ya hubo en ella una semilla del deseo de seguir con su vida, que su destino no fue escrito solamente por �l y sus caprichos. Me estoy asombraba con las investigaciones que hizo, o sea con la historia en la novela. Echa luz a los experimentos que hicieron con seres humanos en Puerto Rico, algo que no aparece en la Historia con may�sculas, y nos hacen falta la historia con min�sculas. Cuando toca el tema del racismo se trata no solamente del racismo abierto y legal c�mo lo del hotel que no le permiti� a Micaela entrar por el ascensor normal y los experimentos de Rhoads sino tambi�n del racismo m�s sutil y escondido. De una manera se puede decir que Gardel no es racista porque le ama a una mujer negra (igual c�mo Thomas Jefferson) y es amigo de un hombre negro pero al fin y al cabo no lucha por ninguno de ellos, tiene tolerancia para los racistas. Hay m�s detalles que me permite, una mujer blanca, vivir por un rato con la piel de Micaela y sufrir el racismo cotidiano. M�s que nada estaba picada con la novela, no pod�a dejar de leerla. Eso no me pasa siempre con novelas en espa�ol porque leo menos r�pidamente en mi segunda lengua, entonces normalmente leo un poco en espa�ol y despu�s me relajo con una novela en ingl�s. Esta vez no, le� sin parar hasta el final, un final que me dej� con ojos cuadrados por las palabras perfectas que describi� el viaje de una mujer �nica y a la vez conocida.

EXCELENTE NARRATIVA!

Primera obra que leo de la autora y me encant�! La narrativa es muy amena y escrita en un espa�ol bien puertorrique�o. Me hubiera gustado leer 200 p�ginas mas por lo entretenido del mismo. La autora desarrolla y mezcla muy bien una historia real ( Gardel) con una amena y brillante imaginaci�n.

Una novela perfecta

La amante de Gardel es una novela perfecta. En ella se entrecruzan los discursos de raza, di�spora y g�nero como en ninguna otra de las entregas narrativas de Mayra Santos Febres. Aqu� la escritora se encuentra con su verbo de frente y, finalmente, escribe la novela que viene ensayando desde todas las anteriores, para darnos un producto completo y redondo. La carrera de Carlos Gardel y su paso por Puerto Rico marca el momento de la modernizaci�n de esta Isla del Caribe como base experimental de los espacios que el espect�culo va a tener en el resto de Latinoam�rica. El encuentro de Gardel con la di�spora boricua en Nueva York va a internacionalizar su carrera y el cantante se da cuenta que ya no debe seguir cantando para Madrid, Par�s o Nueva York, sino para toda nuestra Am�rica.
