Nice Arrangements for Fingerstyle Guitar

This series of Hal Leonard fingerpicking books is really excellent. I have several of these books (pop, acoustic rock, rock, etc,) and find the arrangements easy to play, easy to follow and accurate. These are not "how to" books, but rather a collection of sheet music with TAB notation for fingerpicking. Recommended for intermediate guitarists accomplished in strumming chords who are looking to better develop the playing of fingerstyle arpeggios.

nice repretoire arrangement for the beginner guitarist

These arrangements are for the beginner student who is studying from any of the standard method books like Mel Bay and Hal Leonard.They are easy to play and will help your reading skills in the first five frets.Rarely do they venture far from these positions.It's true your not going to find advance harmonic devices in these arrangements or clever bass lines and chords.But you will be playing a piece that will sound decent and you can showcase it to your family and friend your early efforts on the guitar.They allow you to concentrate on fundamental beginner guitar skills such rhythem, melody,chord shifting and phrasing.All very important skills you need before you can play advance fingerpicking arrangements.If you have advance arrangement that you brought before and you never quite mastered them go back to simple arrangement like these and learn to phrase and perform them musically . You'll have a few pieces that you can really play and slowly you can work your way up to arrangements by your fingerpicking heros.Here a very good hint record yourself playing the arrangements it will be quite revealing about your playing skills don't blame it on the arrangement!

As I have said in other reviews, I have most of the fingerpicking series and by far this is my favorite out of all of them. It is the "go to" book when I just want to relax and play a song. It's just of enough of a challenge but not too hard so you can consistently sound good. I would say it is advanced beginner fingerpicking. Song list includes

About the Author
An eminent media and communications expert, Keval J. Kumar is the founder-director of RECMER (the Resource Centre for Media Education and Research), Rune, as well as a Visiting Faculty at MICA (Mudra Institute of Communication), ISB&M (International School of Business and Media), and Indira School of Communication.

He has authored seven books, including Media Education, Communication, and Public Policy: An Indian Perspective, and The Complete Guide to Mass Communication.

He earned his doctorate in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester, UK, and has taught at several institutions including, Ohio State University, USA, Jacobs University, Bremen, Germany, Bahrain Training Institute, Manama, and Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication, where he was also the Director. He was the Chief Advisor to the 'Media Studies' committee formed for NCERT's syllabus and textbooks, and many of his articles have been published in academic journals and books on Communication. An Associate Member of ORBICOM, the Association of UNESCO Chairs in Communication, he also Chaired the Media Education Research Section, International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), from 1998 to 2006.

Birds can be among the most difficult wildlife subjects to photograph, because they tend to be small, fast, and elusive. However, they are also beautiful and immensely photogenic. Young, one of the most published bird photographers in England, here provides both an excellent primer for the novice and advanced tips for the experienced photographer. Two excellent chapters introduce the equipment needed to photograph birds, explaining the uses of various lenses, teleconverters, and types of film. The meat of the book is in the third chapter, where photographic techniques are discussed. Young is a master at dryly telling funny stories about some of his past mistakes and using these stories to illustrate what he should have done. He gives numerous hints about finding places to photograph birds, using the equipment, and utilizing blinds. Chapters on selling the resulting photographs and learning from one's mistakes complete this extremely useful book. Nancy Bent

Solid advice for novice and expert alike

This book offers some ideas and techniques I hadn't really encountered elsewhere. For instance, Mr. Young suggests and even encourages new bird photographers to spend lots of time photographing common or even tame birds at parks. For most of us who become serious about bird photography, we have come to it as birders, and you know how *they* can get! If not, read The Big Year, and you'll find out. Point being, as birders we seek the unusual, and when we become photographers, we will do the same. Mr. Young elegantly makes his case for the birds in the park, suggesting that learning tricks of exposure, flight shots and all the standards can be learned with a bit less waste of film.
He also gives some good advice for equipment that might be less costly for those of us without the income to support supertelephoto lens habits. I had not heard of the photoadapter setup he shows, but will probably explore this option.
Most of all, he gives excellent advice on all aspects of bird photography; equipment and film selection, location and approaches, and various techniques. I found his liberal use of side by side photos showing the same bird shot with different techniques and approaches to be very helpful. Mr. Young is not afraid to share his mistakes as a teaching tool. He also includes a chapter on archiving, so that one can begin to learn from mistakes made.
All in all, I have gained much from this book and highly recommend it. For me, the one downside is that he is based in the UK, so he is talking about birds and locations there, but this added a bit of fun, as he discusses shooting such rarities as the American robin!
