AUSTIN PRYOR is a native of Louisville, Kentucky, and graduated from the University of Kentucky where he received a B.S. degree in Banking and Finance in 1967. Pryor founded his own investment management firm, Forum Investment Counselors, in 1978 where he saw his average client account more than triple in value during its first five years of operations. He is an American financial writer, speaker, and radio personality whose work focuses on investment counseling from an evangelical Christian point of view. In 1990 he founded the Sound Mind Investing newsletter to help Christians apply biblical financial and investing principles in specific ways to their personal situations. His written articles appear regularly on www.SoundMindInvesting.com as well as the Crosswalk, Christian Broadcasting Network, and Crown Financial Ministries websites.Pryor has been married to his wife, Susie, for 50 years; they have three grown children and ten grandchildren.

Easiest "How To" financial planning manual I've ever read!

Dave Ramsey quoted Larry Burkett as saying that if you can't explain it to your wife, you shouldn't invest in it yourself. Austin Pryor makes this subject so clear to understand, that I can turn around and explain it with ease. Investing with a long-range plan is easy to do if you just follow the steps that Austin describes. Even a music major like myself can comprehend it! This handbook should be the starting point for everyone, whether they are just starting out or further down the road of life.

I have read pretty much every edition of the SMI handbook and recommend it to everyone I counsel/coach. It is a solid foundation for learning all the investment basics, so I often give it away as a gift. I also recommend it to everyone in my Financial Peace University classes.
I have read every SMI newsletter since they began in 1990 and have learned so much from them. These are good people with really good products.

Helped me retire at the age of 40.

If you want to honor God with your finances, this handbook will help you do it. I was able to support my family while my wife "homeschooled" our four kids, donate at least 10% of our income, and then retire at the age of 40 by following the principles in this handbook. (I do still work, but not because I have immediate financial needs. I am free to follow God's guidance.) I have subscribed to the Sound Mind Investing website for many years and own an older edition of the handbook. It is excellent--comprehensive, practical, and easy to understand. There are features that help you learn the main points and access information quickly as a reference book. The topics in the newer edition look similar to the old edition, but some new investing strategies have been added.

Matthijs Kooijman is an independent embedded software developer who is firmly connected with the maker movement through a local fab lab and his work on the Arduino project. Since his youth, Matthijs has been interested in making things; for example, he built his first television remote control before the age of 10 (using a piece of rope to pull on the volume slider, not a solution that he would choose today). Matthijs has a firm belief in the merits of open source software and enjoys contributing to the software that he uses―both by coding and helping out other users. His work experience is broad―ranging from Web development to Linux driver hacking, from tech support to various forms of wireless networking, but almost always related to open source software in some way.

there's no better book. This book will walk you through some ...

If you want to work with Arduinos and XBees, there's no better book. This book will walk you through some of the more tricky aspects of getting XBees configured and up and running. Admittedly I didn't think the thermostat project was the best choice but it will give you an understanding of XBee capabilities and up your toolset for other projects. I especially liked the chapter on battery power and sleeping, controlling zigbee devices and the section on how to apply encryption. It's clear the author has done a lot of research so you can get on with your projects instead of wading through documents and forums

Despite its small size, this book is jam-packed of content, organized in a very logical fashion. The book starts with the most common-sense notion of pleasure being the central part of life, and from here takes you through a fascinating journey of realization as the values of knowledge, achievements, virtues, friendships, love and death is revealed to you. Thomas Hurka is a brilliant writer who knows how to balance sophisticated concepts with enjoyable and to-the-point paragraphs.

The book is divided into several chapters each focusing on one topic. Every chapter starts with a general and broad concept, and narrows down and takes closer look at how each individual aspect of the topic can affect the quality of life. Many references to various philosophers from ancient to contemporary is used, which are also listed as further readings at the end of each chapter. Some chapters also incorporate diagrams to help with concepts, making the content of the book very accessible by those unfamiliar with the theories of academic philosophy.

Who doesn't want to know more about pleasure, satisfaction and happiness and how to achieve them ?

This book is part treatise, part blueprint for living a more satisfying life. It is not a step by step self help book, but there are plenty of those out there already. This is a thought provoking and dare I say"pleasurable" read. Though Hurka is an academic, this book doesn't have a text book sort of feel. But it does make you ponder what a "good life" looks like and how we all might have one.

Spanish Olive Oil!

My family loves Carrabba's seasonal dishes, including the Limoncello Bread Pudding. Being able to make them at home, when the restaurant is not offering them, is well worth the cost of this cookbook. While not everything they serve is included (use Look Inside for a table of contents) the recipes that are included were absolutely worth the price to me. These have been adjusted for the home kitchen. The ones I've tried execute well. Also included are some minor tips, such as Carrabba's using a propriatary Spanish Olive Oil instead of Italian. ( This explains why I haven't found an Italian oil of similar taste. ) The author also advises not buying diced canned tomatoes as they have been chemically treated not to break down during cooking. These are the kind of practical tips that add value. Too many cookbooks offer useless information to pad the page count. Carrabba's has wisely chosen to produce a thinner book with clean and spare page design. This is a book meant to be used in the kitchen, not toured from an armchair. Great gift for a beginning cook.

AMAZING!

You are probably wondering if the recipes in this book are authentic. Well, THEY ARE! :) I have made the chicken soup, calamari, garlic mashed potatoes, and pollo rosa maria so far. Let me tell you, they taste just as good as the restaurant dishes! Definitely recommend this book. It is very affordable and totally worth it! The recipes are easy to follow. I'm surprised it didn't cost more!
