About the Author

Professor Yong-Zai Lu (IEEE Fellow since 1998) earned his diploma degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Zhejiang University, China, in 1961, where he currently is an emeritus professor with the Institute of Cyber Systems and Control. He previously was a consulting professor at Shanghai Jiaotong University and a senior consultant at Supcon Co. China. During 1991 to 2003, he held senior consulting and technical positions at Bethlehem Steel Co., i2 Tech Inc. and Pavilion Tech Inc. in the US. He was a full professor and director of research at the Institute of Industrial Control, Zhejiang University, from 1984 to 1991. During 1980-1982, he was with Purdue University as a Visiting Scholar. He has supervised about 80 PhD and MS students. His research interests include system modeling, optimization, advanced control, intelligent control and computational intelligence, and their applications in production scale and real-world complex systems. He has authored and co-authored numerous SCI and EI papers and a number of books. He received National Science and Technology Progress Awards in China in 1989 and 1993, the ISA UOP Technology Award in 1989, and AISE Kelly Awards in the US in 1995 and 1996. He served as the President of IFAC from 1996 to 1999.

Dr. Yu-Wang Chen is a lecturer in decision sciences at the University of Manchester, UK. Prior to his current appointment, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the Decision and Cognitive Sciences (DCS) research centre of Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester, and a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University. He earned his PhD degree from the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2008. He has published over 30 journal and conference papers. His research interests include multiple criteria decision analysis under uncertainties, modeling and optimization of complex systems, and risk analysis in supply chains.

Dr. Min-Rong Chen is an associate professor at the School of Computer, South China Normal University, China. She worked at the College of Information Engineering, Shenzhen University, China, from 2008 to 2015. She earned her PhD degree from the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, in 2008. She has published over 20 journal and conference papers and has been PI for two Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects. Her research interests include evolutionary computation and information security.

Dr. Peng Chen is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Control Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, and research engineer at the Research Institute of Supcon Group. He earned his PhD degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University, China, in 2011. He has published over 10 journal and conference papers and been working on a number of production-scale research projects on industrial process modeling and control. His research interests include extremal dynamics and computaional intelligence, system modeling, and optimization control.

Dr. Guo-Qiang Zeng is an associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Wenzhou University, China. He earned his PhD degree in Control Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, China, in 2011. He has published over 20 journal and conference papers. He received the Best Poster Paper Finalist and Best Student Paper Finalist from the 8th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation, 2010. He also received an NSFC funding on an extremal optimization oriented project. His research interests include computational intelligence, micro-grid, power electronics, complex networks, and discrete event systems.

About the Author
Dorte is a creativity expert, author, keynote speaker and the founder of FourSight
Denmark. Dorte is also the fouder of ”Creative Communication” an award winning BA education for Art Directors and conceptual thinkers at the Danish School of Media and Journalism, where she teaches, conducts research and consults in the area of creativity and creative thinking. Dorte is the author of numerous books and articles on creative thinking.

2010, Dorte has spearheaded the launch of FourSight in Denmark. For most of the 90’s she worked as an Art Director in London. Her advertising work there won her recognition at the Cannes International Advertising Festival, D&AD, the British Television Awards, Epica, London International Advetising Awards, Campaign Poster Awards among others.
Born in Denmark, Dorte Nielsen studied at The Graphic Arts Institute of Denmark and later at The School of Communication Arts in London. Dorte also holds a Master of Science degree in Creativity and Change Leadership from the International Center for Studies in Creativity, Buffalo, New York, where she and Sarah were awarded the Firestien Family Creative Achievement Award for their graduate work.


Katrine Granholm is an Art Director and Digital Concept Developer. She also work as a lecturer (Associate Professor) at the Danish School of Media and Journalism where she teaches concept development, social media, mobile and Art Direction.

The class is Business Information Systems. Generally speaking, this textbook is easy to read and follow. The feature that I liked best is the difinitions in bold print. This makes it easier to study, to hit the main points for reviewing. The price of the book is high, considering it is one semster class. I plan to keep my book, because I am planning to attend Grad School, and have to take a class like the one. The textbook is written in large print for most people to read, and written in a way most can understand and follow. The hard concepts are explained and charted in a well thought out manner. My major of study is Marketing, so this book did not influence my career choice, but will come in handy working with the software. One thing that I realy enjoyed reading were the Real World Cases.

About the Author
Irene S. Rubin is Professor Emeritus of Public Administration at Northern Illinois University. She is the author of Running in the Red: The Political Dynamics of Urban Fiscal Stress, Shrinking the Federal Government, Class Tax and Power: Municipal Budgeting in the United States, and Balancing the Federal Budget: Eating the Seed Corn or Trimming the Herds, all four of which rely extensively on qualitative interviews. She has written journal articles about citizen participation in local level government in Thailand, how universities adapt when their budgets are cut, and fights between legislative staffers and elected and appointed officials about unworkable policy proposals, all based on qualitative interviews. She is in the middle of an interviewing project about how local officials view and use contracts with the private sector and with other governmental units to provide public services.

This book should be a required reading for everyone in the public sector!

This book was great for the course we used it in and it is one of the few books I actually held on to after obtaining my Master's degree. Rubin utilizes a more realistic approach in teaching public budgeting by leveraging real life examples (both good and bad) to prove her point. I especially enjoy the "mini case studies". Let's face it case studies can be so incredibly really boring (and repetitive) after a while, but these mini case studies are only a paragraph or so long and give just enough information to allow students to actually sit and think about outcomes. I think more time should be spent discussing and analyzing the theme in case studies than should be spent reading them, so this method really agreed with me and my learning style. Overall, I really appreciated the honest, upfront approach this book took. I just wished we would have used it even more in my public budgeting class.

Excellent book! The author explains the subject in a way that makes it easy to understand. She gives alot of examples and references. I recommend this book. If you are interested in this book for a college course; I recommend you purchase the book vs renting it. You will want to keep this book as a resource going forward.

I loved the book

I loved the book. I was a little disappointed with the actual chapters on Zen, hoping that Alan would make more explicit comparisons to the earlier material. But all in all it was very informative and has left me with the desire to learn more.

Still The Best

Receiving my first copy of The Way of Zen in 1959 set me on the path of exploring both the literature and the practices of Eastern traditions for the next 47 years. My original copy became so well-worn that I recently had to relegate it to archive status and purchase a new working copy. All these years later, this title still remains for me the classic work for Western understanding of Buddhism.

I am amazed at the proliferation of books on the subject to be currently found on Amazon.com. Separating the wheat from the chaff can be a daunting challenge. Many interpretations of the Dharma, especially by Western authors, often seem to be tainted by naive New Age idealism on the one hand, or dry pedantry on the other. Although Watts was academically disciplined, reading the text with appropriate reflection can be simultaneously an intellectual and experiential endeavor (although not in the "how-to" sense). Watts wisely points out, with ample historical support from past Zen masters, that while so-called techniques for enlightenment may serve as transitional supports along the path, they ultimately lead to dead ends.

The Way of Zen, despite some rather petty criticisms by pedants and literalists over the years, has survived as one of the most lucid expositions of Zen specifically and Buddhism in general. Highly recommended...still.

Guan Heng Yeoh is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, UNSW, and a Senior Research Scientist at ANSTO. He is the founder and Editor of the Journal of Computational Multiphase Flows and the Group Leader of Computational Thermal-Hydraulics of OPAL Research Reactor, ANSTO. He has approximately 180 publications including 7 books, 10 book chapters, 83 journal articles, and 80 conference papers with an H-index 16 and over 800 citations. His research interests are computational fluid dynamics (CFD); numerical heat and mass transfer; turbulence modelling using Reynolds averaging and large eddy simulation; combustion, radiation heat transfer, soot formation and oxidation, and solid pyrolysis in fire engineering; fundamental studies in multiphase flows: free surface, gas-particle, liquid-solid (blood flow and nanoparticles), and gas-liquid (bubbly, slug/cap, churn-turbulent, and subcooled nucleate boiling flows); computational modelling of industrial systems of single-phase and multiphase flows.

An Excellent Reference for CFD Software Users

I manage data centers and computer rooms for my organization. I am an information technology professional, and not a mechanical engineer. Over the years, I have found using CFD tools invaluable in helping me to determine the state of our computing facilities with regards to maintaining proper cooling in our high-density computing environments.
I had purchased other CFD books with the goal of helping me to better understand the CFD software that I use. But, this is the first book that I feel is designed for the CFD user, as opposed to the CFD developer.
But, I should add, that you will need to reference Google and YouTube to refresh your algebra and calculus skills.

That's a good book for initial students in CFD. It's an applicable book without an extensive explanations in relation to differential equations. That's ideal to give you a broad overview about CFD applications!
